Monica Watkins is a career professional in the fields of engineering, energy, finance and construction. In addition to a BSME from the University of Maryland College Park and a MBA-Finance from Loyola University, she holds certifications in energy management, verification and technology. Monica is also a 1989 graduate of the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute and has over 18 years of local utility experience in the areas of gas engineering
& construction, energy accounting & billing and electric policy, rates & regulations.

In 2006, Monica successfully established the first every Energy Department within HABC dedicated to managing its energy platform, reducing utility and energy consumption, and upgrading public housing units with Energy Star appliances and new utilities. Her primary projects comprise over $100 million Energy Performance Contracting initiatives for five developments.

Just recently, Ms. Watkins was promoted to Acting Associate Deputy Director for HABC’s Engineering, Energy and Capital Improvements Division. Her responsibilities now span five departments/units and over 40 employees.

Ms. Watkins is also the mother of UMCP sophomore Morgan R. Newton. In her “spare” time she serves as President of Baltimore Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. as well as a board member for exceptional non-profits like Suited to Succeed. Monica’s passion for Suited began in 2009 when she sought an organization to have her family and friends donate to in honor of her birthday. Since then Monica has been passionate about Suited’s mission to provide a pathway to success and support for women seeking gainful employment. Suit- A- Palooza will always be a fond memory for her introduction to Suited and the lifelong partnerships she has developed as a result. Monica also loves to dance, travel, run and practice yoga. She is an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church and enjoys meeting people and sharing her gifts, talents and assistance with others.
